Also note that MinGW GCC 4.4.1 with Dwarf-2 exceptions (from TDM) also creates the problem.

But GCC 4.3.0 with Dwarf-2 exceptions (bundled with Octave/MinGW 3.2.2) does not create the problem.

So the issue is specific to Dwarf-2 in 4.4 series.
