Tracking this down, it appears that the faulty commit is 9456fa10.

But I don't see why it breaks the testsuite, since the error message is totally unrelated.

More confusing, the same commit is also present in master (418382b3) but does not generate the crash there.

I’ll continue to look into it, but if you have any idea let me know.
